Either online or offline, many of us have come across a hater at one point in our lives. Whether they come in the form of an anonymous troll online or an ex who spreads false rumors, there are times when it simply cannot be avoided. And what is the best way to deal with a hater, you ask? Let these celebrities below show us how it’s done:
When Zendaya flaunted her dreadlocks at the 2015 Oscars, she was quickly talked about. Fashion Police host Giuliana Rancic crossed the line, commenting that she felt the star smelled like patchoiuli oil or weed. But instead of lashing out, the vocal Zendaya took to Instagram to post a message about the harsh criticism on African American hair. Rancic was quick to apologize upon seeing this.
2. Demi Lovato
Body positivity advocate Demi Lovato cleverly used her humor to brush off a Twitter troll who said, “shut up fatty dont choke on ur mcdonalds!” Lovato’s response was definitely the opposite of what the troll was expecting, when she retweeted the tweet and added her own comment: “But…. Big Macs…..”
3. Kendall Jenner
When she was starting out in fashion week, Kendall Jenner received hate from model Arisce Wanzer through an open letter that said she wasn’t a real model because she used her family name instead of working hard. Jenner kept quiet about this until she starred in a cheeky Mean Girls parody that featured some of the things haters have said to her. This only shows us that the ability to make fun of yourself is a great asset.
4. Selena Gomez
When a bully left a comment on one of Selena Gomez’s photos, telling her to “burn in hell with cancer”, the star took the classy route. Gomez responded to the hater, challenging her to be a better person and telling her that cyberbullying is never okay. Afterwards, she shared the interaction on her own Instagram page to teach her fans an important lesson.
5. Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber can definitely teach us a thing or two about confidence. When he was booed by haters as he walked on stage at a Fashion Rocks event, he didn’t let that affect him. Instead of getting upset or leaving the stage, the star took off his shirt and showed off his abs. While this might seem a little cocky to some, it still teaches us that you shouldn’t let the opinions of others take away your self-worth.
