Pio Pio’s Holiday ’17 runway had models strutting, dancing, and bouncing in a flurry of indigenous prints, putting the spotlight on the intricacies of Philippine woven fabrics. The whole collection was a feast for the eyes as it married festive patterns and traditional weaves with contemporary silhouettes in an explosion of colors. Piopio worked with communities of traditional weavers across the country, championing the craftsmanship of the Filipino in a modern era. The result is as cool as the music video that opened the show (director Judd Figuerres had model Alexa Aguirre grooving along a scenic province to music created by Pasta Groove and the Hernandez brothers)¬— a refreshing selection of garments that are at once experimental and wearable.
