Classic film Sex and the City has purveyed tons of fashion trends since its release in 1998. Carrie Bradshaw and her group of stylish friends–Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte–have influenced women globally with their chic, fancy ensembles on every episode, including iconic pieces from designers. One, in particular, is the glitter, bird-shaped clutch that Mr. Big gave to Carrie in an early episode, which was made by Judith Leiber.
Now, the renowned designer taps high fashion label Alexander Wang to create a limited edition jewel-encrusted minaudiere. The streetwear architect is known for his edgy, It girl-approved looks and is now giving his own spin on the signature crystal Leiber piece for Spring 2018. The bag is shaped like a wad of 100 dollar bills, complete with a rubber band. Take note: it’s also covered in over 10, 263 black, gunmetal, green, and clear Swarovski crystals.
It certainly is quite fascinating for two designers with such disparate styles to collaborate for an extravagant piece, and it’s no surprise that the output is as whimsical as it can get. “When I think about collaborations, I always try to work with people who do something that’s very specialized and who are a leader in their field,” Wang said in an interview with WWD. “I love that we don’t normally do evening bags or do anything that’s really decorative or bedazzled.”
It’s set to be revealed in Wang’s New York show on the 9th of September. The glitzy clutch will retail at $4,995 and will be available for purchase starting November at AlexanderWang.com.
