The fantasy of skating in a roller rink during the 80s–all decked out in the most colorful sports jacket, varsity lined shorts and socks, with puffy hair and fancy earrings–sounds like a great reverie to re-create in real life. Today, Saint Laurent
is making that happen but in the most high-fashion way.
Since Anthony Vaccarello
took over as the French luxury label’s creative director, Saint Laurent has been coming out with whimsical shoe designs. From the glitzy silver thigh-highs from the fall ’17 collection (these were worn by street style icons Rihanna
and Celine Dion
) to high-heeled pumps with the “YSL” letter logo as the heel, the fashion house adds another eccentric (and iconic) footwear
to their line: heels with wheels.
The sky-high stilettos feature a three-inch heel with a roller skate wheel, and a toe stop underneath the shoe’s platform. It boasts ease of movement but still significantly chic. Anyone who can rock these heeled wheelies can make an even bolder statement with an element of danger to their ensemble.
Fashion enthusiasts considered this a runway success, quickly snagging them from the Saint Laurent website. But for those who don’t feel up to the challenge of wheeling in heels, the brand also released a beginner friendly version: sneakers with roller skate wheels attached to the soles.
The pumps retail for $1,995 but for those who would like a more pop art style design to their skates, the pair is available in a Lichtenstein-inspired print called the Anja 100 Patch Pop Pump Roller,
which costs around $3,300. The sneakers are a tad more affordable at $1,195 and it’s now available at ysl.com so you can literally start rolling in style.
