gabs-gibbs-megastyle-megastyleph-opener Some girls just seem to have an innate understanding of what works and what doesn’t: what clicks, what looks great, what makes other people want to follow suit. Gabs Gibbs just so happens to be one of those girls. She emanates an effortless cool girl vibe that’s difficult to ignore; in the sea of gorgeous girls on Instagram, this striking beauty knows how to make a lasting impression. Her edge? She’s what we’d like to call a beauty chameleon. Gabs dares to take on what a lot of girls would cautiously sidestep. A drastic pixie cut? She’s been there. Electric blue hair? She’s done that. “Safe” is something Gabs isn’t fond of when it comes to her beauty philosophy. And even when she decides to take on pretty basic techniques, she somehow turns them into something exciting again, something others want to revisit and revamp—just the same way she does. Today, when Gabs isn’t mingling with power players in the beauty industry, she produces video shoots with her sister, Chi. Together, they put together fun how-to beauty videos with refreshing insights called “The Gibbs Guide,” a do-not-miss for beauty aficionados. When was it that you first started being mindful of beauty products and routines? It started when I got my first zit in high school. [Laughs] I began to research about skincare and eventually makeup! And what is your earliest memory of using makeup? When I was about three years old , I’d sing and dance, [put on a show for] my family and I’d wear costumes and make my mom put makeup on me. Do you feel your background in the arts somehow contributes to your beauty philosophy? For sure! Putting makeup on is pretty much like painting, but for me it’s more personal. Putting on makeup is an art and a [form] of self-expression. It’s an extension of myself.

Let’s talk beauty nightmares: What is one beauty encounter that you will never forget—for the wrong reasons?

I once left my curling iron on and burnt my sister’s leg! Yikes. What is the most valuable beauty tip you’ve picked up? That more is more fun. I change my hairstyle a lot, but [eventually, when my hair does grow out], it always come to a point where [I just wear it long], straight and parted in the middle.
