Got The Wrong Lipstick Shade? Here’s How To Make It Work

If you just realized that you bought a lipstick shade that isn’t quite right, don’t hit the panic button just yet. Whether you bought it online or the good mall lighting fooled your eyes, picking up a wrong shade happens to most of us. So to save you from the unfulfilling purchase, here’s what you can do to still make it work:

1. Mix it with other lip shades.

When in doubt, layering is the way to go. If the shade happens to be too dark for you, tone it down with your favorite lip product that has a lighter hue, and vice-versa. Another trick is to reach for a shimmery gloss–once the shimmer reflects the light, your unwearable dark lipstick will appear a lot lighter than it actually is.

2. Go double duty.

Got a light peachy shade that you feel is washing out your face? It may look bad on your lips, but it will look great on the other areas of your face like your lids.

3. Fill in your lips.

If you’ve fallen for a lipstick that ends up being too sheer (no matter how many layers), a lip liner with a similar hue is what you need. Apply it before the lipstick to make its color pop out more.
