1. It started out with a Pinoy Pride issue.
The June issue has always been themed to honor Filipinos with local singers like Sarah Geronimo and Rachelle Ann Go fronting the cover. But starting 2010, they took the celebration up a notch with the annual Pinoy Pride Ball. Since then, this gala became an important night on our sartorial calendars.
2. It’s also an awards night.
The gala also became a platform to recognize Filipino talents–awarding iconic Filipina singers like Lea Salonga to internationally-acclaimed designers in the likes of Jeffrey Rogador, John Herrera, Chris Diaz and more. With the influx of young talents today, we’re bound to see fresh faces on stage.
3. The ball won’t be complete without the fashion.
Whether it’s the reinterpreted modern Filipina pieces worn by the attendees, or every local labels and designers’ creations on the runway, this ball is always brimming with head-turning looks. Some guests prepare months before the gala, having frocks and suits made specifically for this fashion night.
4. Millennials are taking over this year’s ball.
Hinging on the idea of influence, Millennials are being honored for this year’s #NewPH awards, which explains why the gala is now called the Mega Millennial Ball. These influencers undoubtedly bring relevant change, and in this digital age, it’s only fitting to put the spotlight on this generation.
