How To Pull Off A Bold Lip And Eye Makeup, According To Chanel

Departing from the space station at Chanel’s Fall 2017 show, its creative director Karl Lagerfeld takes us to another grand set: the Grand Palais-turned-Niagra-falls. We’re not kidding. There was a functioning waterfall inside the venue, outdoing all the Chanel runway sets in the past.

This nature-inspired theme translated to clear plastic hats, overcoats, rain boots and yes, even bags. For hairstylist Sam McKnight, it didn’t stop there. The models’ hair were accessorized with clear acrylic pipes that were surprisingly achieved using a vacuum. Meanwhile, underneath their see-through hats were blue smoky eyes, which were extended up to the brows, and it clashed with a killer bright coral pout.

For Chanel’s Spring
2018 show, the beauty memo is definitely not one for the faint of heart. The conventional rule that you should only either rock a bold lip or a statement eye–never at once–was broken, creating an 80s beauty look that feels modern.

To pull it off without looking too flashy IRL, you’ll need to keep these two tricks in mind:

1. Keep your hair away from your face

Tone down your hair to balance the bold makeup, as this is what modernized the 80s look at Chanel. Your best bet? An easy, sleek ponytail, no less!

2. A stripped-back glowing complexion works best with a bold makeup

Make sure that your foundation blends well with your skin. If your face is whiter than your natural complexion, you’ll only end up looking all caked-up–or worse, you’ll end up looking like a clown. Keep all the focus on your bold eye and lips!
