After the abrupt cancelation of his tour, Justin Bieber has a consolation for fans who are still upset about the postponement. Teaming up with his stylist Karla Welch–who has worked with stars like Karlie Kloss and Camila Cabello–the singer is coming up with a new shirt line. But what exactly makes these basic tees cop-worthy?
Back in 2012, Welch recalls how Justin “wanted a really specific long T-shirt, and it wasn’t in the marketplace at all” for his Believe tour. And so, she thought of making a custom white tee for him to perform in. She purchased triple-XL tees from Kmart, and chopped it up—creating her own pattern. Justin’s stylist has been making these custom shirts for the singer’s tours, and now everyone can get their hands on it too.
Two years after, Welch collaborates with Justin himself for the Hanes x Karla range. All the pieces are made out of repurposed Hanes shirts.
“Karla and I have always pushed boundaries together and this collaboration is a continuation of that,” Bieber shares with Teen Vogue, as he serves as the inspiration and co-creative for the line. Together, they recruited models Joan Smalls and protégé Kaia Gerber to front the campaign with Bieber himself. Joining the team are Jen Atkin–renowned hair stylist for clients like the Kardashians and Bella Hadid–and Matthew Welch, Karla’s husband, who shot the campaign. The Hanes x Karla collection is a line of seven tees and tanks available for $30 each at xkarla.com starting August 3. With white t-shirts being an essential piece and Justin Bieber’s creative touch, these are sure to sell out fast.
