Lorde’s style is undeniably one to watch out for. For her second music video from the album, Melodrama, she gave her fans a total fashion feast.
In a dystopian, Rudyard Kipling-esque setting, Lorde walks along a trail of tall grass wearing a straw Jacquemus hat, a white shirt dress, and with a machete in hand. Suddenly, the gates open and she emerges in a different look, donning a ruffled white skirt and a corset top. And so her latest hit song Perfect Places starts playing, and Lorde continues to showcase her sartorial skills with fashionably-charged visuals.
Definitely not one for subtlety these days, the New Zealand pop star greets us with a stunning, voluminous blood red Vaquera dress that resembles a robe. And as she transitions to an eerie beachside–reminiscent of a darker version of Pentos in Game of Thrones–the singer walks along a stone-ground in a champagne embroidered Valentino tulle dress.
The video continues with Lorde swimming in a lagoon in a black ruffled dress because what else would you wear to take a dip in a waterfall? Hats also seem to be a major part as Lorde sits at a dinner party with a black head wrap–it has got to be the most luxurious look in the music video yet.
Who knew we would witness many red carpet-worthy couture in a Lorde music video? The 19-year-old previously revealed a more elegant but still youthful style in her music video called “Green Light”. But it seems like she has traded her club wear for more high-fashion ensembles. With such elaborately styled visuals from Lorde, we can only expect even greater looks from the young star from here on out.
