RUNWAY REVIEW: SM Ladies’ Fashion Holiday 2013

SM Ladies Fashion turned up their style a notch by offering fresh and current pieces for their holiday collection. Realizing that the holidays are an important occasion that demands a lot of festive styling, the pieces presented were perfect for cocktail parties, vacations and work. Prevalent in the collection were smart suits (in pants and shorts), a mash-up of prints, nautical details and lounge wear that was all about an easy but luxurious feel. SM LADIES FASHION HOLIDAY 2013 SMART SUITS The suits we saw on the runway were far from stiff and boring—instead, they came in chic numbers via matchy-matchy printed blazers and bottoms. Blazers were sleek and came in various renditions of digital floral prints, geometric mod and bright solids. We liked that the cover-ups had interesting details: blazers came with or without lapels, jackets were either the bomber or varsity type, while the lengths came in cropped or oversized numbers. Bottoms were tasteful via high-waisted  or pegged shorts, while pants of choice were all about stove pipes and skinny styles that were either cropped or full length. SMART SUITS PRINT PARTY Realizing that the print revolution is upon us, the brand also capitalized on the height of this trend. We probably saw every imaginable print one can think of. Prevalent were floral designs rendered in watercolor, digital, or even in optic illusion. There was also a preference on geometric prints—diamond-like and square prints in recurring versions, an obvious homage to the mod era. Orientalia had a brief moment too, we spotted a dragon printed number that came in a dark silky fabric. PRINT PARTY COCKTAIL HOUR We saw no LBD’s from the brand, but instead, they pushed for LCDs (little colored dresses), instead. Jewel tones in teal, royal blue, fuchsia pink and carrot orange took the spotlight in rich fabrics such as satin, silk and shantung. Silhouettes were feminine—a- line coat dresses in tea length and one-shouldered dress with oversized frilly flounces. COCKTAIL HOUR CRUISE CONTROL Stripes were abundant in classic white, red and navy combinations. They came in various separates that you can easily mix and match.  Irreverent stripes came in silk button-downs, blouses, dresses, blazers, shorts and pencil skirts that can looks perfect when worn with solid-colored pieces. NAUTICAL LOUNGE LUXE If you plan to jet set this holiday, then SM Ladies Wear’s lounge wear is the perfect complement to your beach wardrobe. Picture a mullet dress that can double as cover-up for day and a classy outfit for evening. Sheer caftans came in either solids or printed numbers. We saw a lot of printed maxi dresses as well. This time, they were breezy and came in exaggerated shapes. A beach trip wouldn’t be complete without a swimsuit. Coco Cabana delivered statement pieces in floral, ethnic and paisley printed bikinis as well as covetable day-glo monokinis. LOUNGE LUXE SPECIAL SIGHTING Not just about the clothes, SM Ladies Fashion also surprised attendees when they presented three guest models that epitomized the look and feel of their holiday collection.
