Return of “Rama, Hari”

This November 30 until December 9, the pop ballet musical “Rama, Hari” returns to the stage of Cultural Center of the Philippines’ (CCP).

Based on the Indian epic Ramayana, “Rama, Hari” is a story of values, devotion and relationships.

Starring this year’s revival is a powerhouse cast of the Philippine’s most talented: Christian Bautista and Karylle playing the lead roles Rama and Sita; Robert Seña as the demon Ravena. Ballet Philippines’ Jean Marc Cordero and Richardson Yadao will be dancing as Rama, while Carissa Adea and Katherine Trofeo will be playing Sita. Providing music for the much-awaited revival is the Manila Symphony Orchestra.

Staying true to its original production, National Artist for Theater Design Salvador Bernal will still be overseeing the set and costume design, Ballet Philippines’ founder Alice Reyes for choreography, and libretto still by National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera, as shared by music maestro Ryan Cayabyab. Ballet Philippines’ artistic director Paul Alexander Morales exclaims that the grand collaboration of the best Filipino artists is what has made “Rama, Hari” special ever since. English subtitles during the performance were translated by National Artist Rolando Tinio.

“Rama, Hari” was first staged in CCP in 980 with the voices of iconic Filipino singers Basil Valdes and Kuh Ledesma as Rama and Sita, respectively.
