The KathNiel-Approved Iceland Itinerary

itirenary_featured_image If you’re planning a trip to the below-zero fields of Iceland, you might as well make it worth the jet lag. Travel in style like Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, and make sure you take photos as sizzling-cool as their MEGA covers. Here are four of Iceland’s must-see attractions.
1. Skaftafell National Park

If you’re an outdoor girl, you’ll enjoy the picturesque landscapes of Skaftafell. Lace up your hiking shoes and set aside a whole day to explore the area.

Short trails lead to waterfall Svartifoss and glacier Skaftafellsjökull. If you want to climb Iceland’s highest peak, Hvannadalshnjúkur, the park is also the perfect place to set up camp.

2. Eldhraun Lava Field

The thick green moss spread over the lava, the blue skies and the fog will give you a calming, meditative experience.

The beauty disguises its horrific past. Eldhraun was formed from one of the most violent volcanic eruptions in history, the Lakagígar eruption of 1783. Lava surfaced and covered 600 square kilometers of area in less than a year. It is the third largest lava flow on the planet after the Ice Age.

3. Blue Lagoon

Ahhh, spaaa. Who wouldn’t want to lay back, relax and gaze at auroras in the sky? Located in a lava field in Grindavík in southwestern Iceland, Blue Lagoon is a huge geothermal spa  perfect for backaches, headaches and heartaches.

The silica-and-sulfur-rich warm waters are said to heal psoriasis and other ailments. The water temperature in the bathing area averages 37–39 °C–not too hot, not too cold. The area is also a research facility that studies the mineral-rich water for its healing properties.

4. Gullfoss Waterfalls

The jaw-dropping view looks like it came straight out of the Bible. Located in South Iceland on the Hvítá river, the water comes from Iceland’s second biggest glacier, the Langjökull. The fall drops down 32 meters into a cavernous, 70-meter deep canyon. On a perfectly sunny day, you’ll be able to see a huge rainbow over the falls.
