The Weeknd continues to take fashion by storm. After collaborating with H&M for a widely-raved collection called “Spring Icons”, he now follows the footsteps of fellow hip-hop artists Rae Sremmurd and Rihanna as he becomes Puma’s latest creative ambassador. It’s the Starboy singer’s second collaboration with the sneaker purveyor and he is designing both apparel and footwear for his own line called “Parallel”. The collection will feature a range of high-tops in white and olive colorways.
On his interview with Footwear News, the Toronto-native chart topper talks about his vision in creating the sneakers, stating that his desire is to make it accessible to the masses and to incline it towards his own style. “I was involved in almost every aspect, but I was most focused on the silhouette,” he explains. “With XO and Puma, we really collaborated and worked on making the best product possible”. The best part was his answer to the question of who he’d like to see wear his creations. “I want to walk down the street and see kids wearing it and women wearing it. I want to see The Pope wearing it. I want to see Obama wearing it. I want to see Elon Musk wearing it”.
Teasing us even further, The Weeknd admits that he is already working on the next phase of their collaboration–expect street-style focused t-shirts, denim jackets, and trousers to follow down the line. Parallel is a piece of the Starboy world that would be a great addition to any sneakerhead’s collection.
The sneakers will retail for $220 (PHP 11,000) and will be available on Puma’s website beginning August 24.
