These Minimalist Caps Are Making A Politically-Charged Statement

These days, band merchandises don’t only come in the form of basic shirts, as the fine line between fashion and music is certainly getting blurred. With artists such as HAIM collaborating with retail giant Urban Outfitters, and Guns N’ Roses teaming up with streetwear label Off-White, its no surprise how merch lines now resemble high fashion collections. Alt-pop four-piece The 1975 recently joined the hype, as the band released a range of minimalist caps designed by lead vocalist, Matty Healy. The latest launch features three white caps with tongue-in-cheek statements emblazoned on the center, such as What A Shame, I love Tom Hanks, and a half-filled Hangman-style text that says Glamorise.

The range is the third edition of minimalist caps that the British headliners have released, with the previous two having five available selections in black and white. The band, particularly Healy, is known for their political activism and outspokenness towards world issues.  Healys personality and individual thoughts radiate through each capsown writing. Not only are they a symbolism of the band’s new era, but also an allusion to todays pressing matters, especially towards capitalism.  The pieces are definitely a form of protest weara trend that has been all the rage among the street style crowd and designers like Dior, Prabal Gurung, and Creatures of Comfort at fashion week.  The third wave of the minimalist caps range is available for purchase online at the1975.com and it retail for $30 (P1,500). Although most pieces from the first and second collections are sold out, their original logo-printed caps are still up, along with pins, patches, and similar minimalist-style streetwear that truly defy the meaning of statement pieces.
