If there is any person who’s considered as an expert on collaborations, it’s Virgil Abloh. The founder and creative director of streetwear label Off-White has partnered with several brands in creating innovative fashion. With the designer’s groundbreaking ideas, Off-White don’t fail to add a high-end streetwear flair to any other brand that collaborates with them.
Just recently, Nike taps Off-White to recreate 10 of its most iconic shoes for their latest creative project called “The Ten”. Featuring ten iconic silhouettes of the Nike, Jordan, and Converse archives, the line was completed in an outrageous 10-month period, which is the fastest and the most ambitious collaborations ever completed by the sneaker giant.
The collection is divided into two categories. The “Revealing” set consists an Air Jordan I, Nike Air Max 90, Nike Air Presto, Nike Air VaporMax and Nike Blazer Mid. On the other hand, the “Ghosting” category includes Nike Air Max 97, React Hyperdunk, Air Force 1, Zoom Vaporfly and Chuck Taylor All-Star. Expect former sports classics, open-cut designs and the latter featuring translucent uppers. Each pair sports tongue-in-cheek designs with a red zip tie attached to the laces and Off-White’s signature meta lettering “SHOELACES” written on the laces.
“What we’re talking about here is larger than sneakers; it’s larger than design culture. It’s nothing short of state-of-the-art design,” Abloh shares in a released statement by Nike. “These 10 shoes have broken barriers in performance and style. To me, they are on the same level as a sculpture of David or the Mona Lisa. You can debate it all you want, but they mean something. And that’s what’s important.”
The first five sneakers of The Ten will be pre-released at NikeLab stores in New York City (Sept. 9-13), London (Sept. 18-22), Milan (Sept. 21-25) and Paris (Sept. 26-30), while the full collection including all ten silhouettes will be available in November at NikeLab stores and select retailers worldwide.
