Selena Gomez is known for starring in a number of family-friendly films. Gradually, her career as an actress has been shaping up to a more mature path, with roles in films such as Spring Breakers and In Dubious Battle. It might seem natural for her to take on a daring role for director Woody Allen’s latest film with Elle Fanning and Timothee Chalamet, but the response of netizens seems to point otherwise.
Throughout the years, film director, screenwriter and actor Woody Allen has created some cinematic masterpieces, such as Annie Hall, Manhattan and Midnight in Paris. To this day, he still remains to be a prolific filmmaker, with Cafe Society and Wonder Wheel as his most recent works. Unfortunately, the icon’s reputation took a swift turn when he was accused of sexual assault by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow. The alleged claims, which were released in the New York Times, were later on denied by Allen, but this didn’t stop the allegations of abuse to be discussed by other family members, including Farrow’s brother Ronan Farrow, who publicly wrote about it.
Despite the claims, this doesn’t stop A-listers such as Blake Lively, Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg from working with the director. While others are very much excited for Gomez for snagging the movie role, others are more concerned about her decision to work with Allen.
