While most designers head to the classic route when it comes to bridal design, that’s not the case for Vera Wang. Back in Fall 2014, Wang enchanted the Bridal Fashion Week market with her all-pink collection that exhibited dresses ranging from dainty blush to hot pink. The spectacle had an interesting juxtaposition as models sauntered down the runway in grungy makeup and messed up hair.
Now, for Spring 2018, Wang is revamping bridal wear with a bewitching twist. The designer ditched the runway in place of an artful campaign shot by the legendary Patrick Demarchelier to showcase the witchy designs. The set is a dark and smokey with models sporting fringed, layered bobs and sultry makeup.
Asymmetry, layering, and intricate details ruled the collection–think a silk corset with a tulle skirt or a sheer, lace-paneled ball gown. Black flowers and capes were draped on the shoulders, and slits and sleeves were creatively cut to a T.
Although Vera Wang has long been associated with traditional ball skirts, dreamy lace, and textured pleating, the iconic bridal designer has recently been creating darker, gothic-inspired designs and has been fully embracing dark romanticism.
