“I am grateful to have all of you who have walked this path with me. But I need to be honest, I am at this point where I feel like I live in a box. I have not been able to do what I want and say what I feel,” celebrity Maine Mendoza wrote in an open letter to her fans.
The 22-year-old also mentioned that she wanted freedom: “to feel what I want to feel, be what I want to be, and do what I want to do.”
True to her statement, there can be times when fans expect too much from their idols. Come to think of it, a true fan would respect the celebrity they idolize, allowing them to live their lives the way they choose to.
In addition to this, Mendoza also talked about another hot topic, her on-screen partner Alden Richards. “And for all the love and efforts you have given us, you deserve to know the truth and at this very moment Alden and I are just friends. We are a love team,” she said.
There seems to be a wave of public figures who are trying to veer away from the pressures that the showbiz industry can bring. By speaking up, these celebrities are opening up conversations about a quality we should possess: empathy.
We are so quick to judge other people that sometimes we end up pointing out our own flaws onto them. Rather than labeling someone as this or that, we should remember that people are multifaceted beings. A little more understanding on our part will lead the way to a better society, slowly but surely.
